BreastScreen Victoria’s Beautiful Women Campaign is a series of portraits of beautiful women from the lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and intersex communities. The campaign raises awareness around the importance of breast screening in early detection of cancer.
Did you know that one in eight Victorian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer? And that lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and intersex women are 50% less likely to screen regularly?
I didn’t! So when Dr. Catherine Barrett invited me to participate in the #beautifulwomen project to encourage lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and intersex women to screen more regularly, I didn’t even need to think about it. Merging art and social activism is the reason I get out of bed. (that and breakfast)
The campaign was a huge success with global media coverage from Mashable, Buzzfeed and even Vanity Fair.IT . The beautiful women who made up this campaign made my job an easy one and I’m truly grateful they had the courage to stand up and support the LGBTIQ community .
