After years of Marriage Equality campaigns, I can’t tell you how great is it to receive a letter like this; “Hi, My name is Alex, and I am lucky enough to be marrying my boyfriend Kieran. We’re having a small ceremony at Medley Hall on Drummond St in Carlton”
Gotta love Marriage equality!
Alex and Kieran met in Canberra while studying. They both share a keen interest in the social and urban history of Melbourne and Sydney, and it was important to them that they had their wedding in a space steeped in this history.
As with all my weddings I like to research the venue to get a sense of the place, and lets just say, Medley Hall is definitely steeped. Completed in 1893, the original building was designed by Walter Scott Law, with construction materials and craftsmen imported from Italy. Wow, now that’s craftsmanship. It’s been everything from an arms dealers home, to a residential college for the University of Melbourne. I digress…. back to the point, the same-sex wedding point. My friends, finally we can get married!
