Same-Sex Wedding – Kylie and Skip

I am a same-sex wedding photographer. It was a hard gig Pre-December 2017

On 10 Feb 2018, I photographed my first Same-Sex marriage in Australia! I have photographed other Same-Sex weddings, but this was my first in Australia. Marriage equality had been a long time coming and it was a hard won fight. On the 7 December 2017 the  Marriage Equality bill was passed in the Senate.

I want to acknowledge everyone who rallied, campaigned and had the courage to fight for marriage equality, because of you,  Kylie and Skip and others in the LGBTIQ community can now wed.

Kylie and Skip, have been together for nearly 20 years. Six years ago, they had a commitment ceremony (that’s what LGBTIQ people did before marriage equality) So this time around it was a simple, intimate gathering of family and friends to legalise their commitment (get married).

It may have been a simple gathering but it was a significant one, it marked a time in Australian history where the LGBTIQ community finally had the legal right to marry the person they love.  You can just imagine the massive uproar of joy from the wedding guests when the celebrant pronounced Kylie and Skip legally married.
